MAUI

Maui is a musical love story about two people who arrive on an island and leave changed by each other, by the people they meet, and by the land beneath their feet.

Linh and Guillaume meet unexpectedly on Kapalua Beach. What begins with a smile and a spontaneous conversation slowly becomes a journey across Maui - swimming, surfing, drifting offshore at sunset, standing beneath the banyan, climbing the volcanic landscape of Haleakalā, chasing rainbows through Kula and walking through the forests of Haʻikū in search of hidden waterfalls.

Along the way, their relationship with Maui changes. At first they see its beauty. Then they begin to feel it.

A chance encounter with a local celebration brings them into a circle of strangers holding hands and giving thanks for the sun, rain, land, food and one another. It becomes one of the simplest and most meaningful lessons of their journey: gratitude, connection and respect for the ʻāina.

Their journey ends at Ulua Beach. They watch the sun disappear, stay through the night talking, whispering and falling deeper in love, and wake together as the first light returns to Maui. By morning, they understand that the island has given them something neither expected to find.

Musically, the album moves through warm melodic deep house, organic rhythms, intimate vocals, French, English and touches of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. Rhodes, muted guitars, deep rounded bass, hazy analog textures and understated percussion create a sound that is romantic and contemporary without relying on familiar Hawaiian musical clichés.

The final instrumental, Maui Stays, leaves the story without words. The people may leave, the journey may end, but the ocean continues, Haleakalā remains above the island, the forests keep growing and another Maui sunrise begins.

Maui is a love story between two people. But it is also a love story between people and an island. They came to discover Maui. Instead, Maui changed them.
