East meets West

I have always believed that music travels more easily than people do. It crosses borders without showing a passport. It speaks before introductions are made. Somewhere between a rhythm, a melody and a room full of strangers, people who have nothing obvious in common suddenly find themselves moving together. That idea sits at the heart of my Credo: travel far, stay curious, listen carefully, and use music to bring people closer.

My journey begins Sous La Pluie De Vietnam, standing beneath an awning while the rain turns the streets into mirrors. Motorbikes cut through the water and music escapes from a doorway behind me. I don't know the people inside, but ten minutes later I do. There isn't always much that needs to be said. Rien à dire. Không cần nói. I keep traveling, and Inspired by Ceylon, the air gets warmer, the rhythms more organic and percussion begins to replace conversation.

Then the temperature drops. Bonus Almaty Couronnes Blanches takes me north, surrounded by cold air and white peaks. I arrive carrying music collected thousands of kilometres away and leave carrying more than I brought. That's how traveling works for me. Every person adds something. Every place leaves a sound behind. By the Electronic Bridge, the coordinates have almost become irrelevant. Airports, taxis, hotel rooms, headphones and clubs start to merge. The rhythm becomes my map.

Then comes Dalla Costa Azzurra a Beirut, and Beirut becomes the hinge between worlds. East and West sit at the same table. Mediterranean warmth meets electronic precision, organic percussion meets melodic house, languages overlap and someone chooses the next record. Nobody asks where the music belongs. That is precisely the point. A Golden Tide carries me westward across the Mediterranean until I find myself in a Mediterranean Dawn at 3AM, somewhere between yesterday and tomorrow.

I follow the coast Along the Riviera, windows down, sea beside me, music probably a little too loud. There is always another person to meet, another story to hear, another track to discover. On Reste Encore Un Peu. I always do. Eventually I reach Les Quais - Before Sunrise, and the sounds I collected in the East have changed along the way. They haven't disappeared or been replaced. They have met other sounds, other cultures and other people.

Musically, East Meets West travels through organic house, deep house, Afro-influenced rhythms, melodic house, Balearic textures and progressive electronica. It begins warmer, more percussive and organic, then gradually opens toward the Mediterranean before becoming increasingly melodic and European. The genres follow the same route I do: they meet, borrow from one another and slowly become something that belongs to neither East nor West alone.

And then comes Sunrise After Love Parade. The sun rises thousands of kilometres from where I started, but somewhere inside the music, Saigon is still there. So are Ceylon, Almaty, Beirut and the Mediterranean. More importantly, so are the people I met along the way.

East Meets West is my journey through places, rhythms and encounters. I don't believe music has to choose between cultures. It can carry them with it.

Listen, stay awhile,

Love
