West meets East

I rarely think of myself as returning. There is only the next departure. My Credo remains the same: go somewhere unfamiliar, meet the people who live there, listen before I speak, and leave something behind that can travel further than I can. Usually, that something is music.

This journey begins Sous La Ville, somewhere beneath a European city where I can hear a bassline traveling through concrete. I follow it. Dis-moi que t'es là. A message arrives. I am. The night gets deeper as Supreme Worth gives way to Bridge. Names become numbers, deep house becomes electronica and strangers become friends. By the time we reach the Midnight Circuit Ritual, I am standing in a room full of people who probably don't speak the same language, yet everyone is moving to exactly the same beat.

This is why I travel. Not for the airports or the hotels, but for these moments. Midnight becomes morning and suddenly we're Sleepless at 4 AM. There is coffee, conversation and someone telling me about a place I absolutely have to visit. So I go. Terminal 17. One bag, headphones and a collection of music and memories from the night before. The departure board flickers and the West slowly disappears behind glass.

Somewhere above the clouds, a bridge becomes the soundtrack. Then Sound World. Coordinates without places, music without borders. When I wake, the air has changed. A Moonlight Palm Breeze moves through an open window. The electronic pulse I carried from Europe is still there, but something new is growing around it: warmer percussion, more space, unfamiliar melodies and rhythms that seem to breathe differently. I listen first. Then I add something of my own. A sound world takes me deeper into another night, another room and another group of people who were strangers only an hour earlier.

Musically, West Meets East begins with deep house, melodic house, progressive electronica and indie dance, carrying the energy and structure of the European night. As the journey moves eastward, that structure gradually loosens. Organic house, Balearic influences, warmer percussion and atmospheric electronica begin to enter the picture. The transition isn't sudden. One world slowly dissolves into another until it becomes difficult to say exactly where West ended and East began.

Eventually, only Shadows That Remember remain. Fragments of conversations. A melody heard through an open window. Someone dancing. Someone laughing. A name I will probably forget and a feeling I probably won't.

That's the strange thing about traveling. I leave pieces of myself everywhere, and everywhere leaves something in me. West Meets East isn't really about West meeting East. And East Meets West isn't really about East meeting West.

For me, both albums are about people meeting people.

Music simply makes the introduction.
